Disclaimer
GeoMeta Pro is an informational and productivity tool designed to help users inspect, map, and manage the metadata embedded in image files. The information displayed by the tool reflects the data found in the EXIF and GPS fields of the files you provide. This disclaimer explains the important limitations of that data and the responsibilities of users when relying on it for professional or personal decisions.
General use disclaimer
GeoMeta Pro is provided on an "as is" basis for informational and workflow purposes. The tool does not provide legal, surveying, forensic, medical, or professional advice of any kind. Results produced by the tool should be checked against original source data before being used in any important decision. Aswin Murugalingam and GeoMeta Pro accept no liability for decisions made based on tool outputs without independent verification.
Metadata accuracy limitations
EXIF metadata is written by the device or software that created or processed an image. The accuracy of that metadata depends entirely on the accuracy of the recording device and whether the data has been modified after capture. Specifically:
- GPS coordinates may be imprecise, degraded by atmospheric conditions, reflected signals, or limited satellite visibility at the time of capture.
- Timestamps reflect the device clock, which may not have been correctly set or synchronised to a network time source.
- EXIF data can be missing — not all devices write all fields, and some devices write no GPS data at all even with location services enabled.
- EXIF data can be altered — metadata fields can be changed by editing software, metadata editors, or other tools after the original capture. GeoMeta Pro reads and displays whatever is in the file; it does not authenticate whether that data was original or modified.
- EXIF data can be stripped — some software, platforms, and messaging apps remove metadata when processing or transmitting images. A photo without GPS metadata does not prove that no location information ever existed in the file.
For workflows where data authenticity matters — forensic analysis, legal proceedings, insurance assessment, or regulatory compliance — consult a qualified professional and do not rely solely on GeoMeta Pro's output.
Address lookup accuracy
The optional reverse geocoding feature converts GPS coordinates into a human-readable address using a third-party geocoding service. The returned address is an approximation based on coordinate proximity to known map features in that service's database. It may not correspond to the actual property boundary, legal address, jurisdiction, or floor level associated with a location. Address lookup results should not be used as definitive location identification without independent confirmation.
Privacy responsibility
You are solely responsible for deciding whether images and exported metadata are safe to share with specific recipients or to publish in public contexts. GeoMeta Pro can show you what location data is present in a file, but it cannot determine whether that location is appropriate to disclose in any given situation. When in doubt, use the scrub feature to export a metadata-free copy and verify the result by reloading it in the tool before distributing the file.
